Pendant of the Day - by Jilleglass

Our Pendant of the day comes to us from  Jill E Glass.  This is a handmade one-of-a-kind boro glass pendant. I love the details on this piece as well the colors and ture-to life shapes. Jill E Glass offer many other one-of-a-kind pieces in her on-line shop. Stop by and vist so you could see for yourself.

Here is our interview with Jill.

Tell us about yourself?

I learned lampworking in 1998, on Maui, Hawaii. I am married and we have two children, 5 & 7 years old. My husband is from Oregon and I am from Sweden, so we do most of our travels to go visit all of our family at both places.  Right now we are living in Mobile, Alabama. We have been here for five years, due to my husbands job. He is a helicopter rescue swimmer for the coast guard and has been in for 21 years. We are trying to figure out where we'd like to settle down since he will retire soon.

How did you get started making handmade pendants?
Lampwork Boro Glass Pendant - Focal Bead - DolphinI was mostly making large sealife sculptures, but a friend told me I should turn them into pendants. That was in 2002 and you did not see anything like that out there. I thought it would be crazy to be wearing a glass sealife pendant around your neck, but it became so popular. I love making them and am so thankful that people enjoy them.

What or whom inspires or motivates you?
When I need motivation or to get inspired, I browse a lot on the computer. Watch sealife in motion or lots and lots of sealife pictures. I am very inspired by great artists like Robert Mickelsen, Milon Townsend etc.

When you are not creating what do you like to do?
Lampwork Boro Glass Pendant - Focal Bead - Seahorse Midnight blueMy kids are first priority and they are so creative. This whole weekend we've been working on making ornaments and I taught my daughter to crochet. Nothing fancy, just the basic. They love to draw, paint, build and create with clay etc. My passion is baking, so whenever I get a chance I love doing that. Anything to create great memories for my kids really. I used to draw a lot, but it got replaced by making glass.
Which piece is your favorite and why?       I'd say the turtles. I love to play with color patterns in the shell and I cannot get tired of it. A turtle was the first thing I ever made on the torch. I miss swimming with them on Hawaii.

  1. These are absolutely amazing. I would have to say the turtle is my favorite but it's so hard to choose!
